 2018 Preview 


       Cherokee County completed the 2017 season with a 6-7 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region five, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Cherokee County lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Saks team by a score of 42-14.

       The defense allowed a team record 405 points last season.

       Since 2010, Cherokee County has gone a combined 41-48. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Cherokee County has managed to compile a record of 155-137. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 4A and 156th in the AHSAA.




       The Warriors are led by head coach Thomas Curry who is entering his eighteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 118-81 over the past seventeen seasons at Cherokee County. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times. They have won five region crowns with Coach Curry. Coach Curry led Cherokee County to a state championship in 2009.

       Coach Curry's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-two season stands at 167-95 (63.7%). His 167 wins rank 19th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Curry's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won eight region championships.

       The Cherokee County Warriors will play in Class 4A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Warriors remain in 4A but move from region five over to region six.

       The Warriors will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region six this season.

       The Warriors open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent St. Clair County on Friday, August 31 at Warriors Stadium/Johnson Field. Last year the St. Clair County Fighting Saints finished with an overall record of 10-4 and in third place in Class 5A region five. The Fighting Saints lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Briarwood by a score of 37-33.

       Cherokee County and St. Clair County have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 4-0-0 record against the Fighting Saints. They last met in 2009 with Cherokee County winning by a score of 50-7.
